Texas Canopy First: Why We Say No to Red Oaks
At DustyGirl Carvings, our passion for turning timber into art never comes at the expense of our living Texas landscape. Because we strictly adhere to Texas A&M Forest Service and arborist protocols, we do not accept carving commissions on Red Oaks.
While we proudly carve other Texas oak varieties (such as Post Oaks and Live Oaks), the dangerously high transmission rate of Oak Wilt fungal mats on Red Oaks means cutting into them poses a severe biosecurity hazard to the surrounding canopy. We routinely prioritize the health of our local forests over a paycheck, from Houston to the Hill Country, and we are proud to stand firm on this policy.
If you love your trees, we urge you to know the risks before you let anyone bring a chainsaw onto your property.
